Wednesday April 20- Truth is Truth

Psalm 5:9

My enemies cannot speak a truthful word. Their deepest desire is to destroy others. Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with flattery.

Jesus calls the devil, “The father of lies.”  When we lie we are not following our Heavenly Father. It’s as simple as that. Lying is evil.

The trouble with lying is, once you lie, you keep on lying. Lying is the language of fear.  And the greatest fear is the fear of getting caught.

We learn this at an early age.

You don’’t want to get in trouble? Just lie. That will do the trick. And if the first time it doesn’t work, lie some more.

Except that it just gets worse.

When children grow into adults the lying doesn’t stop. Hey, it’s an election year, after all. Just listen. I know it’s hard to believe, but you may hear a lie or two.

What about foul talk? This is talk to make someone else look bad. To speak against them behind their back. Whenever you speak against someone else to another person, you are saying way more about yourself then you are about them. And if someone bad mouths someone else to you behind their back, what do you think they might say about you to someone else behind your back? Gossip is designed to be hurtful. It stinks to death.

Then there is flattery. The antidote to flattery is identity. If you are the son or daughter of the King, why would you get fooled by flattery. You already are the most amazing and most adored person on earth with a Heavenly Father who sees you are number 1. So, there is no danger of being negatively influenced by the flattery of others.

What would it take for you not to speak negatively about someone behind their back? Try it out for a week and see what happens.
